Month: February 2015

Featuring: Debra Lynn Meija

Hello everyone!

Today I’ve got a post featuring another ETSY shop: Debra Lynn Meija! She is a fellow blogger who also specialises in illustration and design – her ETSY shop is full of gift tags, post cards and paintings! I personally think they’re adorable and she is very talented, her work shows precision and is of high quality. Here are some works by her which are my favs (you can click on the title of each piece for a direct link to it in her shop):

Okay, so how cute is this post card? I just love the overall colour scheme and the perfume is amazing (sadly I don’t own it, but I have smelt it before, not to mention the packaging is gorgeous!). This is perfect for sending a post card or a gift to someone – you also get 10 in a pack with complimentary “pink lemonade” envelopes and pink ribbons as seen in the picture. This one is definitely my number one pick!

Ever in a dilemma of how to present & wrap presents nicely? (Story of my life.) These gift tags are cute and affordable. I love the illustration of the posh lady and even more so the birds eye view of a present behind her, which definitely accentuates the theme of the gift tags and just looks plain adorable.

Now onto the artworks:

I chose to feature this artwork (as well as the others) as they all would be perfect for decorating your vanity corner or even your room. I love the vibrant, eye-catching colours in this painting and definitely think it would add a little spice to your otherwise empty walled room.

This one would probably have to be my second favourite piece from Debra, as I am a nail fanatic – I absolutely love doing my nails and trying all the cool nail art out there (anyone else?). This work would look gorgeous above your nail polish cabinet/shelf (if you have one) or just anywhere around your room. I love how it has a variety of nail polish colours and just makes it fun to look at. These also are available separately, for example if you just wanted a painting of the red nail polish, it’s available in her store.

Lastly, a piece which truly show cases your love for makeup, especially lip sticks! This piece is cute and quirky, once again perfect for your vanity corner. I love the variety of colours depicted in the painting, which makes it aesthetic. These are also available in separate pieces.

If you’d like to purchase any of these of browse the rest of Debra’s wonderful work here are her links:

Also she has got an offer for the month of February, which offers free shipping to all US residents. The coupon code is: FREESHIP10.

Let me know which piece was your favourite!

“Silver Hair” Trend?!

Hey everyone!

So I’ve got another recent trend for you all which is silver coloured hair (often with a purple undertone, as seen in most of the pictures below)! Now I think this trend is quite controversial and depends on your personal taste immensely. Personally, I don’t really like this look as it does remind me a bit of grandma hair, however it looks quite good on some people such as Eugenie.

Here are some pics of girls sporting the hair:

Would you ever be bold enough to sport this look or do you just plain dislike it? I can’t imagine myself ever dying my hair this colour, I mean, I could just wait till I’m a grandma, haha. If not this colour, would you ever bleach it light blonde? I think that looks much better. Any who, if you’re brave enough to try this out it may pay off & could possibly look stunning! ‘Hairtuck’ Trend?!

Hey everyone!

So this trend has been all over the runways and is now rapidly growing in popularity. It is the ‘hairtuck’ trend – what do you guys think of it? It’s a quick and cute way to sport short hair – I think it’s adorable and a great alternative if you want to see how you look with short hair without actually cutting it.

If you don’t know what this trend is, here are some pics:

I think this look is effortless & chic – I am absolutely in love with how it looks! I don’t think it would suit me though, but you never know until you try!

How to: Reduce Scars

Hi guys!

Here’s a quick tip I’d like to share with you all and it’s about how to remove scars! I wouldn’t recommend this method if your skin is really dry as it’ll string quite a bit. The method I have tried is using lemon juice, since we have a lemon tree in the backyard. This way is extremely cheap yet effective, as I found.

What you’ll need:

– A lemon

– Small cup/bowl

– A cotton pad

Steps:

It’s really simple.

1. All you need to do is squeeze the juice out of the lemon into the container you have chosen.

2. Dip a cotton pad in the lemon juice and apply to the scarred areas (make sure you washed your face prior & that it is completely dry before applying the lemon juice).

3. Leave this on for a minimum of 10 minutes. Wash off. Try to repeat this everyday or every second day to see results faster.

NOTE: Try not to expose your skin to light with the lemon juice on it as it will react and may leave a light patch on your skin. (I’d recommend doing it just before you sleep, this way you could even leave it over night).

How does it work?

The lemon acts as a natural bleach, therefore it helps fade out the scars. The alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) removes the dead skin cells, encourages growth of new ones and gives the skin more elasticity.

What methods do you guys use to remove scars? Also let me know if you try this one out & if it worked well for you!

Violet Box: January 2015

Hi guys!

So this was my first ever beauty subscription box, the violet box (this box is only available to Australians and New Zealanders). To be quite frank, the box didn’t reach my expectations, especially because I was soo excited to receive it. Their customer service was cringe worthy, I emailed them & tweeted them asking if the violet boxes have been shipped out yet (around the 20th) and they did not even bother replying – I was just curious as their website states they ship mid-month. I have only just received the box on the 4th February, so it is in the next month. On the bright side, I did get $10 off this box and a free brush so that does make up to it a little.

Price: $22.95 (original price without discount)

How the box looked when it arrived:

2015-02-04 15.43.13

Overview

2015-02-04 15.42.00

Lonvitalite 24K Active Gold Yulan Eye Mask – RRP $25.95 (5 pack). Received a single pack = $5.

2015-02-04 15.42.21

The Cosmetic Kitchen Raw Chocolate Clay Mask – RRP $24.95 for 50g. Received the full size product.

2015-02-04 15.42.45

Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel – RRP $67 for 50mL. Received a 5mL sample = $6.70

2015-02-04 15.42.29

Mellow Cosmetics Blush – RRP $14. Received the full size product.

2015-02-04 15.42.38

Emite Make Up Precision Eye Pencil – RRP $24.95. Received the full size product.

2015-02-04 15.52.25

A swatch of the eyeliner and blush.

So overall I am not so thrilled with the products as I am not that interested in skin care products (mainly because I am too lazy to use them!) but I think this box would definitely appeal to people who prefer to receive skin care in these boxes. The value was pretty good, it hit a total of $69.20. I am probably the most excited to use the eyeliner pencil as a inner corner highlighter or the under eye mask. I am also curious to see how the 3 minute peel mask works. The blush is a nice, natural looking colour. The least exciting product to me is the chocolate clay mask as I think it will be messy to use – it requires you to mix it in with water before applying it.

I have seen better violet boxes in the past which have been showcased by other bloggers and youtubers and am not that thrilled with this one. Not to mention their customer service was horrible!

Rate: 2/5

Just to let you all know I have already unsubscribed to this box because I don’t think I’d pay $22.95 for another right now also I wasn’t too impressed with their customer service – maybe in the future I will give it another go.

*UGH, quick update they said I can’t cancel until next month because it is past the 3rd… (I emailed them on the 4th, which was the day the box arrived). Super annoying! Also I just opened the longvitalite eye mask to find there’s only ONE in the packet. I think was a mistake though as the package clearly shows it has two – also who gives out eye masks for only one eye! Do not recommend this brand…

I have signed up for the ‘Lust Have It’ beauty box and am excited to try that one – I have high hopes (again)! Will definitely keep you all posted on how that one turns out.

Let me know your thoughts on this box if you’ve tried it before! Also what are your favourite beauty boxes? Am I being too harsh?
