Tips: How to Keep Your Space Clean & Safe

A safe and clean home is what we all want, right? Well, instead of list of bad habits you should avoid, here are a list of good habits you should pick up in order to help attain that kind of home!

Clean one room a day

A lot of people have cleaning habits, but they tend to put focus on doing the majority of their cleaning tasks on one day, usually on the weekend. This is understandable, especially if you’re busy when it comes to weekdays, like most people are. But the problem with this is that it ends up taking a huge chunk out of your free time! Think about it: you rarely have to spend more than half an hour on each room. So every day, tidy one of the rooms in your home. Spread the task out across the week! That way, you don’t have to have so much of your time eaten up on the weekend, giving you a little more time to relax and enjoy some of your hobbies.

Look out for ventilation and plumbing problems

Ventilation and plumbing problems are among the most common house problems people can have, and they’re also among the most dangerous! Ventilation problems can result in toxins not leaving your home’s air quickly enough, and can also encourage the growth of damp and mold. Plumbing problems can lead to unhygienic water, and burst pipes leading to structural damage. But there are more warning signs for these sorts of things than you may think, including condensation and strange noises. You could also consider an inspection every so often. Businesses like Luke Ginger Plumbing can help with that.

Tidy a room as your leave it

When you’re about to leave a room, take a good look around. A quick scan of the room should reveal to you if there’s something in there that should be taken to another room. Maybe there’s a mug in the living room that should go to the kitchen, for example. One way of putting this rule is to not leave a room empty handed; there’s usually something that can be put back in its right place in another room! This makes the proper room cleaning tasks later a little quicker.

Declutter

Decluttering may sound like a pretty big task as opposed to a habit. And, in one sense, that’s true. But the reason that decluttering is seen as a big task is that people do it all at once after a few weeks, months, or even years. If you check your home for clutter and get rid of anything you don’t need every, say, one or two weeks, then you’ll end up with a much cleaner home without having to commit all that time to one task.

Test your smoke alarms!

If you want to make sure your home is safe, then there are few things more important than making sure your smoke alarm still works! These tests take such a small amount of time, but they’re so easy to forget. Some will say you should test them once a month, but maybe you should consider setting a specific date and time to ensure you test yours every three weeks. Consider wearing earplugs, though – they’re not designed to be quiet, after all!

  1. I’ve tried cleaning/reorganizing my spare room (which is also my beauty room) so many times but I just can’t get there. I’ve decluttered so many times it’s ridiculous. I’ve gotten rid of probably a dozen garbage bags of stuff but still can’t get rid of everything. I try every year and fail miserably. 😂
