Some people are the ones always behind the camera trying to capture the moments. But then most of these people will always have a bone to pick with the fact that they never seem to be any of the pictures. It’s more common than you think to always be the one prompting the photograph but one way you can be in the picture yourself is to actually switch the camera around and take a selfie instead.
However, the truth is we all know there are plenty of opportunities to get in on the action when it comes to capturing pictures and actually being in them, but the problem is that there is another underlying reason why people tend to avoid being in front of the camera and would rather stay in the safety of being behind it. That is low confidence and self-doubt. However, it doesn’t need to be this way. I wanted to share with you some of the ways you can start to feel comfortable in front of the camera. Hopefully providing you with more opportunities to capture the memories in picture format with you in it.
Recall memories where you felt confident and powerful
Whether you had a particularly good period at work, gave the speech of your life, had a child, married the person of your dreams, recall the memories where you felt at your most confident and powerful. This is good fuel to help you feel more confident. Use the memory and draw on its powers.
Figure out what is causing you to feel this way
First of all, you need to figure out what is actually stopping you from being in front of the camera. One of the most common things would be that you are not that confident in how you look. But why is that? It might be that you don’t have particularly good skin. So it might be worth looking at your skincare routine or speaking with GP to see if the problem is adult acne. There are plenty of cures for problematic skin, be that in the form of creams and cleansers or DIY home remedies.
Other issues you might face could be having confidence in your smile, perhaps having an issue with your teeth, their condition, how straight or white they appear to be. This is when chatting to a local dentist could help you get your teeth back to how you want them to be. However, your looks shouldn’t be your main concern when it comes to capturing pictures, this might be something only you have problems with. Instead, try and feel more comfortable in your own skin. If you are struggling with having a positive outlook on this, then there are some articles online that could help you tackle this issue.
Don’t fake it, act natural
People can tend to clam up in front of the camera or fake a smile as they don’t feel too comfortable to act naturally. But this is where you could be giving yourself more of a complex about how you look than you realise. An unnatural smile can look forced and at times, make your face seem to appear different. A natural smile will look happy, fill your face with emotion and you will be able to see exactly how you are feeling through the look on your eyes. So how do you act natural and not fake the smile? The best advice is just not to force it. Instead, try and focus on the emotion you are feeling rather than the camera being in your face. Which can then help you to allow that emotion to shine through naturally through your facial expressions.
Visualise yourself how you want to be
A simple trick to boosting your confidence, in general, is visualising how you want to be in your mind. It’s important to stand tall and be happy with how you look and feel on the inside and the outside. Tall and correct posture can work wonders for how you look in pictures, but it can also help you in everyday life.
Take time in your appearance each day
Finally, many of us can agree that when we look good, we feel good. So a great tip to feel more confident and put the self-doubt to bed is to take more pride in your appearance. This might be taking extra care when picking your outfits, spending an extra ten minutes in the morning to apply some make-up or do something with your hair. Whatever makes you feel good just indulge in it. This way whenever the opportunity does arise to capture the memory through a picture, you will know that you feel confident in how you look. Amy x
