Review: Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 HR Metal Eyeshadow

Hi guys!

Sorry I haven’t been posting as frequently as before, it’s because I’ve got my HSC trials coming up and then the big exam soon after – boy I cannot wait until it’s over! Anyway, I decided to pick the the Maybelline Color Tattoos awhile ago after hearing great things about them and put it to the test. I ended up getting two colours: “Bad to the Bronze” and “Bold Gold” as seen below.

Price: $11.95 (AUD)

Pros:

As suggested by the name, “colour tattoo” the product really does not budge at all and dries soon after you apply it. It is smudge proof even on my oily semi-monolided eyes which is amazing and a huge bonus. Even if you try smudge it with your finger, it’s impossible. The colour pigmentation is amazing and can be built up easily creating a more intense colour, you have to swirl your finger around in the product a few times first otherwise it won’t apply nicely.

  • Smudge proof
  • Lasts all day
  • Great for oily eyelids
  • Excellent pigmentation

Cons:

I really dislike the packaging for this product, especially if you have long nails. It is a pain to angle your finger to ensure product doesn’t get under your nails and can be quite uncomfortable, I can’t imagine how annoying it’s going to be when the product is used up more! It is also encased in a glass container which means you have to be a bit more careful with it and store it well while travelling. I also find that since these dry on your eyelid fairly quickly, it is a little hard to blend out.

  • Application process is not practical
  • Harder to blend out

Recommend/Repurchase?

Yes I would definitely recommend these color tattoos especially if you have oily eyelids like me. They are perfect for on the go or when you’re in a hurry. I probably wouldn’t repurchase these at full price as I’d rather use that money to try something else, however I’d definitely consider getting some of the other colours (it’s going to last forever anyway!).

Rate: 4/5

Check my “About” if you’d like to know details about my age group, skin type, etc which could help you gauge the effectiveness of this product on your own skin.

Have you tried this? What are your thoughts?

  1. You should check out the e.l.f. Smudge Pots! There’s more product and for almost half the price! Plus they don’t dry out as quickly as the Color Tattoos and you don’t need as much product!

      1. Cruisin’ Chic is my favorite! It’s a dupe for On and On Bronze and I use it almost everyday! Got it 6 months ago and there’s still plenty of product in there with no signs of drying out 🙂

  2. Great post! I’ve been looking at these shadows forever and haven’t been sure about buying them, but since it is Summer, I really enjoy having cream shadows to throw on and I think I’ll need to pick some of these up! I just found your blog and I love it! I can’t wait to read more posts:)

      1. I think as long as you use it often, it should be okay. I think my problem was I was not using it very often so it dried faster if that makes sense. Good luck! 🙂
