Violet Box: January 2015

Hi guys!

So this was my first ever beauty subscription box, the violet box (this box is only available to Australians and New Zealanders). To be quite frank, the box didn’t reach my expectations, especially because I was soo excited to receive it. Their customer service was cringe worthy, I emailed them & tweeted them asking if the violet boxes have been shipped out yet (around the 20th) and they did not even bother replying – I was just curious as their website states they ship mid-month. I have only just received the box on the 4th February, so it is in the next month. On the bright side, I did get $10 off this box and a free brush so that does make up to it a little.

So overall I am not so thrilled with the products as I am not that interested in skin care products (mainly because I am too lazy to use them!) but I think this box would definitely appeal to people who prefer to receive skin care in these boxes. The value was pretty good, it hit a total of $69.20. I am probably the most excited to use the eyeliner pencil as a inner corner highlighter or the under eye mask. I am also curious to see how the 3 minute peel mask works. The blush is a nice, natural looking colour. The least exciting product to me is the chocolate clay mask as I think it will be messy to use – it requires you to mix it in with water before applying it.

I have seen better violet boxes in the past which have been showcased by other bloggers and youtubers and am not that thrilled with this one. Not to mention their customer service was horrible!

Just to let you all know I have already unsubscribed to this box because I don’t think I’d pay $22.95 for another right now also I wasn’t too impressed with their customer service – maybe in the future I will give it another go.

*UGH, quick update they said I can’t cancel until next month because it is past the 3rd… (I emailed them on the 4th, which was the day the box arrived). Super annoying! Also I just opened the longvitalite eye mask to find there’s only ONE in the packet. I think was a mistake though as the package clearly shows it has two – also who gives out eye masks for only one eye! Do not recommend this brand…

I have signed up for the ‘Lust Have It’ beauty box and am excited to try that one – I have high hopes (again)! Will definitely keep you all posted on how that one turns out.

Let me know your thoughts on this box if you’ve tried it before! Also what are your favourite beauty boxes? Am I being too harsh?

  2. Wow I am very sorry for your experience. To be honest I have tried a couple of subscription boxes and the first ones usually were the worst. Probably just my luck but I stuck to some of them to see if the second box would be better. I recommend looking at their list of brands to see of it’s more makeup than skincare. I went with a company called glossy box and ended up canceling because I kept getting skin care stuff. I now have 2 favorite companies for subscription boxes but it took a while to find there. So hang in there and good luck! And hopefully the next one you try will also have better customer service!

    1. Ahhh I see, well, they basically forced me to stay for another month as they said I can’t cancel since its past the date… But I only received the box on the 4th :/

  4. I agree, this box doesn’t seem good at all. I remember getting the Real Chemistry in a Popsugar some time back, and getting it for just one eye must have been some sort of mistake haha.

  5. Oh there’s nothing i hate more than bad customer service. To be honest i wouldn’t have liked any of the items in this box so would have been disappointed. The value is good but that appears to be it.

  9. I currently subscribe to Birchbox and haven’t been disappointed at all – I get at least one full size luxury product almost every month. You tailor your own profile and sometimes they send you extra goodies like organic snacks to test out. I’m not sure if it’s the exact same over there but I’d recommend! Their customer service is also spot on 🙂

    So sad that you’ve had a bad experience with it as I love my new one arriving every month!

  10. Whoa! $22.95 for that box!! Can we talk about expensive?! But 5 pieces in a box where just by looking at them now, is not really appealing to me… I’ve looked at the boxes in America, and I wish they shipped to Australia! 😦 Great review though. I’ll now check out your Lust Have It! January box 😀

      1. Oh that’s super awesome. I feel sometimes these beauty boxes will have good ones and sometimes bad ones or a mix. Is it all worth it in the end though? I’ve been contemplating to get one these boxes but haven’t got myself around to it yet..

      2. Ahh just realised I haven’t posted my violet box post for feb, it’s going up tmr! You should try one out when they have a special on – I got my LHI one for $10 for the first month, hehe.

      5. When I was researching the unboxings they weren’t that great so I opted out, however I believe it’s the #1 beauty subcription box in Aus! I have thought about giving it a go but think LHI & VB are more worth it for the products inside (I’ve seen normal products like dove & garnier in the bellabox so that kind of steered me away).
